Corinne Chevallier, between history and memory

· Society

Algiers, 26 February 2012. Corinne Chevallier, an Algerian historian and novelist, was born in Algiers in 1935. The daughter of Jacques Chevallier, mayor of Algiers from 1953 to 1958, she devoted part of her work to the history of the city and of Algeria. Through her books and research, she took a particular interest in the history of Algiers before colonisation and in the memory of her father, whose political career she retraced. A writer attached to Algiers, Corinne Chevallier chose to remain in the city where she was born and whose history is a major source of her work.
